EESporTubeReview 1It’s that time of the year once again, time for thoughts of deep pow turns deep in the mountains to consume the mind. Last winter I picked up a SporTube Series 3 to carry my plethora of snow sports gear. While designed primarily to carry your gear when flying to mountain destinations, it can also work well as a roof top or in vehicle snow sports gear carrier, both protecting the gear and your vehicle. EESporTubeReview 2SporTube offers 3 sizes of case for your winter sports gear. I went with the largest size, the Series 3, as I needed to carry 2 snowboards and a pair of skis. I was able to also fit a pair of ski poles, a pair of snowboard boots and some miscellaneous other clothing in the case, but it did require a bit of effort to get all these items to nest into the case properly. The key to this case it the adjustability of the 2 piece design, which allows a huge length range, 42″ to 72″ long items, to fit with ease, as well as securely while minimizing the overall size. EESporTubeReview 3I can personally attest to the ease of use of the SporTube when traveling without your vehicle, as I flew to Portland to retrieve my gear dragging this case through airports, on trains and buses. It is relatively light, at 14 lbs, and seems to be quite durable. The wheels on the bottom and handles on top provide a number of carrying and dragging options to best suit your situation. I also used the SporTube TSA compliant lock on the case which gave me piece of mind about my expensive gear, while making it easy for TSA to do their thing, which you know they’re going to nearly always do with a case like this. EESporTubeReview 4With the design of the EEXP adventuremobile it doesn’t lend itself to interior storage of such large items, as that is the living space, and the roof rack is always a bit full, so a roof box won’t really fit. The SporTube is my answer to this problem, as it can carry a ton of gear, mostly keep it out of the weather and can be locked, at least to some extent. While the case isn’t exactly designed to be used in this way, and it for sure isn’t weather proof, it actually works quite well at keeping out the majority of the elements and blends in quite well with my kayaks. I’m also able to cable lock the case to the kayaks, although a sharp knife could cut off the webbing handles in short order. EESporTubeReview 5If you need to safely transport your expensive snow riding gear on this winter’s travels the SporTube is a great option. I’ve been quite happy with my purchase. EESporTubeReview 6Added Bonus: Case ships UPS/FedEx without the need for additional packaging. EESporTubeReview 7Tip: Don’t strap it down overly tight on a roof rack. The plastic is relatively pliable and can warp with excessive consistent pressure, especially when sitting in the sun for long periods of time. EESporTubeReview 8Caution: Sharp ski and/or snowboard edges can cut the edges of this case when loading /unloading.
