SNAPSHOT: Trail of 100 Giants

May 18, 2012 By Bryon Dorr 7 Comments

A quick visual journey down the “Trail of 100 Giants” in the Sequoia National Park. I made a quick stop in Sequoia on my way to Kernville for some whitewater kayaking. Very cool area that I look forward to exploring more in the future. It would be quite easy to camp out and absorb the natural beauty of the place for quite some time.

For more info on the trail check out: http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sequoia/gsnm/gsnm-long-meadow-grove.html

All of the trail is paved, except around newly fallen tree.

The top of this tree fell and speared into the ground. Very cool!

Many of the big trees grow in pairs.

Photos can't do the fallen tree justice. It is huge!
The root systems on the fallen trees fascinate me.

Twins
Shadows in the forest.
Fast little guys!

I really liked the rotting fallen trees, as you get to see the meat of the tree.
The textures of the different kinds of bark where really cool.
Co-habitation in the forest.

Natural forest fires are essential for the health of the forest.

The road in and out of the park is spectacular!
