REVIEW: Benchmade Triage Knife

Benchmade makes incredibly high quality knives. The Triage knife has won many awards since it’s introduction in 2011 and offers a whole lot more than just a great 3.5″ blade, offering up a safety hook and glass breaker. The G10 textured handle is extremely durable and offers up a secure grip while the Axis locking mechanism is both secure and smooth to operate. The Triage is available with an orange or black handle, black or natural blade and with a plain edge or ComboEdge blade. The 916 model has the blunt tip and the 915 model has the sheepsfoot style blade. Benchmade also recently released the 9170 Auto Triage, which features an automatic opening blade and hook. MSRP for my 916BK-ORG shown is $185 (BUY NOW for LESS!).

The Benchmade Triage Knife is a great everyday, adventure and overland tool. It is just the right size to carry as a pocket knife everyday. It has all the right tools, and not too much bulk, to carry on outdoor adventures, both for use as a rescue and around camp tool. It is also ideally suited to the overland adventure traveler as it can be extremely useful in a car accident. The carbide glass breaker and safety hook allow you to extract yourself or others quickly from a wreck as safely as possible. I keep my Triage within reach at all times while driving my Sportsmobile, and plan to integrate it into the driver’s door on my next adventure vehicle.

In 2011 Benchmade added 20,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing to their Clackamas, OR facility. The facility now has over 55,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing and has been awarded the LEED Gold certification from the Green Building Council. Using new technologies, materials and manufacturing processes Benchmade continues to create some of the worlds best knives, and is proud to manufacture them in the USA. With a lifetime warranty and the LifeSharp service how can you go wrong with a Benchmade!

“It’s not just a knife. It’s a Benchmade.”

This year, like the past few, Benchmade has set up shop at their local dealer in Moab, Gear Heads, during Easter Jeep Safari. They had on offer a HUGE selection of their blades and offer FREE Lasermarking on site. It only takes a few minutes and they can do almost anything your heart desires. They snagged the EE logo from the website and put it on my blade in less than 5 minutes. Very cool! If you’d like something similar find them at EJS or send your blade in and they’ll do the engraving for a great price (Benchmade Lasermarking).IMG_6463Other Quality Triage Reviews:

I love my Triage knife and plan to use it extensively on my overland adventures. My only word of advice is to get the 916S model which offers up a ComboEdge blade. I find that a serrated blade comes in handy in many situations, especially when other tools aren’t close at hand. I’d for sure stick with the orange handle, as it is easily found in the wilderness, and orange is just cool:)
