FIRST DRIVE: 2020 RAM 1500 EcoDiesel

August 20, 2019 By Bryon Dorr Leave a Comment

The 2020 RAM 1500 is a truly impressive truck. The new third-generation EcoDiesel adds loads of torque, great fuel economy and is a towing machine. The EcoDiesel is also finally available on the Rebel model, and all other RAM 1500 models for that matter.

I think I’d have to go with the HEMI V-8 with eTorque if I were to buy a RAM 1500 however. More horsepower, more immediate throttle response, more towing capacity, a great exhaust note and a lower price being my reasoning.

The EcoDiesel Details

For a full rundown on all my first impressions of this truck, with detailed data on the new diesel engine, check out my RAM 1500 EcoDiesel story on Gear Junkie HERE.

The Experience

It was a pleasure to drive this new truck in and around Duluth, MN. It is easy to get out into the country side quickly from this small lake side city. The OHV park we got to play in was good fun, and an impressive facility for the local off road community.

I got to be behind the wheel and in the passenger seat for loads of highway, remote twisty roads, off road and towing miles with this truck. I’m impressed in nearly all ways with the RAM 1500, but less so with the new EcoDiesel. It’s a good option for people who drive lots of miles or tow regularly with their light-duty truck however.

Who else is excited to see this EcoDiesel in the Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler next year?
