EVENT: Winter OR 2013- Misc. Awesome Gear

February 3, 2013 By Bryon Dorr 13 Comments

There was so much awesome stuff to check out at this year’s Winter Outdoor Retailer show. I already brought you behind the scenes at the All Mtn Demo, shared the TOP 10 Snow Sports Gear & the TOP 10 Survival Products. Now its time to share all the other cool products that just didn’t fit in those categories, and there were lots!

Xensr is a new device that you can add to your iPhone to track your motion through space. It gives you g forces, height jumped, speed & so much more. This will be super fun to play with and a great training tool. Now you can definitively say that you went bigger than your buddy, or not;)

The new PacSafe Z-28 anti-theft urban backpack with laptop sleeve is the soft bag vault of your dreams. This thing is nearly impossible to get into and in a nice little backpack form. Overlanders should love this for locking up valuables in their rigs.

PacSafe had all kinds of new goodies at the show this year! The Camsafe V25 is super well thought out and the new Carrysafe 150 anit-theft sling camera strap is super simple and functional. Look for reviews on both these products soon.

Klymit brought this little pack raft to the show, the Litewater Dingy. It is still being tested, but packs down to the size of a water bottle and only weights in at 32 oz. At under $300 it is quite the value as well!

Big Agnes is the US distributor for DAC’s Helinox brand. The Chair One and now the Table One are camp furniture from the future. They are super light and pack way down. I think the Overland crowd will love these products and I hope to get my hands on some soon for the Sportsmobile.

Many companies switched to dry down products this year to give you the light weight, warmth and compactability of down, while still giving you an all-weather solution. Sierra Designs now offers DriDown across their entire line of outdoor products.

BioLite introduced this sweet grill accessory for their already amazing stove system. I’d love to grill up a steak and charge my phone while just burning found tinder.

Kelty introduced a sweet modular luggage system this year. There are a bunch of size and style bags that all fit on the same external roller frame. I like the water-resistant bag option pictured here.

One of the most talked about products at the show was the Easton Ultra Light Expedition tent. The tent combines single wall cubin fiber technology with Easton’s quality pole and stake products. The highlight of the tent is the two main panels that are constructed of breathable E-Vent cubin fiber. Very cool, limited production and only about $2,000:)

The Fishhook UL2 by Big Agnes features a unique zipperless closure system. I’m not sure that I’m sold that it will keep the bugs out, but only time will tell. I love the innovation and I have to admit that I hate zippers.

Grand Trunk makes sweet hammocks and travel accessories and this year brought a sleeping bag that integrates with their hammocks. Very well executed design as it does not pack out the insulation as you lie in the hammock and has zippers on both ends allowing you to use it off the hammock as well.

Rand McNally now offers a REALLY nice RV GPS unit. This thing has tons of quality features like telling you which Wal-Mart Parking lots allow camping, a huge 7″ screen, wi-fi for weather and critical info like where the closest dump station or propane fill stations are.

National Geographic is celebrating its 150 yr anniversary with a new line of Recreational Atlas and a new digital Map Kit that is loaded with features and integrated into AllTrails.com.
DSC_1274
Gore Running Wear continues to innovate with super high-tech fabrics combined with athletic cuts and quality color palettes. All these pieces are very feature rich!

Inov is introducing a full line of running clothing in 2013. Quality athletic cuts, high-tech materials and great high vis colors define this line.
DSC_1341
Clothing Arts already offers high quality travel clothes that allow you to securely carry all your essentials. Now they offer many of their products in “Nature-Like” nylon, which is wrinkle-free, quick drying and extremely durable.

Timex has been uping the quality and tech of their training watches for a few years now and the new Run Trainer 2.0 is the culmination of those efforts. It combines fashion and function in a nice little $224.95 package, a great value for a GPS speed & distance model.
DSC_1216
While not a new product I’m a sucker for dual digital titanium watches. Momentum offers a quality product for a great price. The watch even features built-in calender reminders.

Sanuk offers a full line of funky fresh new kicks this year. There for sure is a style in their line for just about everybody. I’m loving the Beer Koozie footbeds in my new Sanuks:)
