EVENT: OEX 2012- Vans

May 27, 2012 By Bryon Dorr 16 Comments

Vans designed for living and driving in harsh conditions are just plain cool! Even next to $300,000+ overlanding rigs the Vans still get lots of oohs and aahs. They are also near and dear to me as I currently live full time out of an E350 EB 4×4 Sportsmobile. This year Sportsmobile was a title sponsor at the Overland Expo and the vans came out in force. There were so many vans that I figured I’d show them seperatly from the other vehicles and highlight their awsomeness:) Even vans come in MANY different flavors.

Check out the highlights below and follow this LINK to the full expanded FB album.

Very well traveled little Mitsbishi Van
Syncros are very cool, but quit expensive in the US.
Tiger Astro based RV. Nice little compact rigs.
Very well sorted 2 wheel drive hard top Sportsmobile by Jason at PRG.
Very nice Chevy based Sportsmobile.
How can you go wrong with Orange! This is a Sportsmobile West factory demo rig.
4x4 Vans are very capable machines:) This is the Exploring Elements rig in action.
Sportsmobile used to make a trailer system that matched the E series vans. Nice way to really carry all the toys:)
Chris at U-Joint Offroad made this very trick and custom van.
Mike at So Cal Sports Vans created VanKong. This thing has a 10" U-Joint lift and is fully custom inside and out.
Ambulances make for great heavy duty RV conversions.
Outside Van makes some super nice adventure Sprinters.
I guess you can call this a "van." Pretty cool that its 4x4. Departure angle is not so good though:)

I suggest next year we put together a specific time during the Expo where all the vans do a parade lap on the offroad driving course. That would be a sweet spectacle to watch, and participate in:)

Check out the full expanded FB album HERE.

(I know I did miss one sweet van. Sorry Brent Haywood. Check out Brent’s Photography HERE, you won’t be disapointed!)
