All Electric Off Road: The Bollinger B1

July 28, 2017 By Bryon Dorr Leave a Comment

On July 27, 2017 the world’s first all-electric all-wheel drive off/on road sport utility truck, the Bollinger B1, fully working prototype was revealed at The Classic Car Club of Manhattan. The vehicle was designed, engineered and built here in America. It is a truly capable off road vehicle that offers impressive performance in a wide range of conditions, a HUGE 6,100 lbs load capacity and an impressive all-electric range of up to 200 miles. The classic 3-box shape should resonate with a wide audience, as it is very Defender’esque. It’s also not slow, with a 127 mph top speed and 0-60 time of only 4.5 seconds.

With all that awesome said, will we ever see this vehicle reach production? I sure hope so, but a real delivery date is still extremely vague; “Once manufacturing is finalized, B1 deliveries are targeted to start within 19 months.” Bollinger is taking emails now and $1,000 down payments in early 2018, to reserve a spot in line to order the B1. No word on asking price yet either, so fingers crossed it will be affordable to the masses.

Is this the future of off-road travel? Will battery power and efficiencies improve enough to make electric range shortcomings a non-issue? Do you want a silent off-road adventuremobile? I personally really hope this vehicle, and more like it, come to the consumer market soon, as they offer performance, capability and a lower environmental impact.

This medium-duty SUT is truly innovative — engineered from the ground up with an all-electric powertrain, unique storage options, all-aluminum chassis, adjustable suspension, and convertible cab panels. It’s second to none off-road, and the perfect work truck for ranchers, builders, do-it-yourselfers, or anyone looking for an electric vehicle with unparalleled traction, torque, and ground clearance.
