REVIEW: Saxx Underwear Blacksheep Long John Fly

January 12, 2016 By Bryon Dorr Leave a Comment

SaxxUnderwearBlacksheepLongJohnFlyExploringElementsReview 1Last winter I was given a pair of Saxx Underwear Blacksheep Long John Fly to try out. I’m not going to lie, the concept didn’t seem like anything special and the materials, while high quality, didn’t seem new or exciting. I’ve now used these long johns for a full winter season. I’ve used them just kicking around town, at few outdoor concerts, snowboarding & skiing hard in the mountains, under a drysuit kayaking and lounging around the campfire on cold winter nights. I have to say my expectations have been far exceeded!

What sets Saxx Underwear apart from the competition is the “articulated front pouch” and internal mesh panels. The idea is to give your package enough room to move around and breath, while still providing support for active movement and to prevent chaffing. The front pouch has no stitching or inner seam bulk, while still providing a fly for easy access when nature calls. The patented internal mesh panels are designed to keep everything where it’s supposed to be when you move, which greatly reduces friction and chafing between your package and your legs.

These materials also combine to provide great moisture wicking and temperature regulating properties. I was pretty impressed by how warm they were when it was cold out, while at the same time not making me overheat when the temps peaked over 50. The cut and materials provide a form fitting contoured long john that isn’t too tight. A big plus, is that even after a few warm days of hard snowboarding, these long johns don’t smell too bad, which is impressive!

SaxxUnderwearBlacksheepLongJohnFlyExploringElementsReview 4Other nice features are the “tag-less” printed tag, narrow breathable waistband and perfect length legs, they stop just above my ankles (Size M with my 32” inseam). These long johns are also quite lightweight and pack up small, which makes them great for travel. Overall I’m impressed, and can’t argue with the $84.95 retail price for these versatile quality long johns.
