SNAPSHOT: BC Overland Rally 2019

August 13, 2019 By Bryon Dorr Leave a Comment

I’m going to let the images do most of the talking. The third annual BC Overland Rally (Event Website) was such an amazing event, held this year for the first time at Whistler Olympic Park. Ski jumps, bears, looming mountain peaks, dense forest and amazing Canadian hospitality combined to create something truly special. Lets have a peek at all the awesome, and I very much hope to share some stories around the campfire with you in person next year.

Lots of top quality vendors, which means lots of great knowledgable people.
Have you ever camped at the base of an Olympic ski jump? I thought not!
Olympic History
You could easily find solitude in the dense forested mountains.
We saw more than painted plywood bears, but somehow they eluded my camera.
By far the most valuable and interesting vehicle at the BC Overland Rally was The Grizzly Torque Land Rover.
Authentic overland travelers like Dan Grec readily shared their stories and knowledge with anyone who was interested. I personally watched Dan inspire more than one young traveler.
Morning yoga helped get the body moving for a big day of adventure and learning.
Professional off road driving instruction is one of the MANY included perks of attending the BC Overland Rally.
I truly love the diversity of vehicles at the BC Rally each year.
The local off road enthusiasts readily shared their local trail knowledge.
Bob’s, Off Road Safety Academy, classes are always well attended.
Winching with a Hi-Lift is not easy or fast, but is a great skill to know.
There is a lot to more than you might think to know about winching and winching equipment. Andy from Warn shared all kinds of quality information on the subject.
Rope splicing with 7P.
Battery welding for trail side repairs is a handy skill to practice.
Advanced recovery class with 7P International.
Ukulele lessons for all ages with Dragon Fly Tarps.
The Gypsy Trunk Burrito food cart was delicious!
The Rebelle Rally gave out knowledge and trail food.
Wine tasting is always a well attended event.
Cocktails and tequila will draw a crowd!
Happy Hour at the Lodge = FREE Beer!
Did someone say FREE beer? It was freely flowing most of the weekend.
The van guys always know how to host a party.
Grill master CEC, of Roambuilt, kept the masses fed with a massive authentic German bratwurst feast.
The nightly talks around the campfire are both entertaining and inspiring. Jillian Brown shared tales of adventure, and mis-adventure, inspired many to keep after their goals no matter the obstacles in the way.
BIG crowds for the nightly speakers.
Dan Grec, of The Road Chose Me, talked about his 3 year circumnavigation of Africa by Jeep. Inspiring stuff!!!
If you’re not motivated to help others and find a path forward in life that benefits those around you by Griff, of Combat Flip Flops, then you have no heart. Impressive life this guy has led, and which has greatly improved so many others’ lives.
Rally regulars are the best! At what other event do you see people wandering the crowds handing out their personal stash of craft beer, just because it makes them happy?
A little evening rain won’t keep the crowds away from the massive raffle.
The nightly raffle crowds just grew each night. Big prizes up for grabs!
Ray and Marianne Hyland, event organizers, making the raffle happen.
The young always seem to win amazing prizes, especially those involving sharp objects and/or adult beverages.
BURN IT!!!
The Overland Challenge on Sunday is always entertaining. This year it was a reverse embarrassing wetness challenge through a course with a big ditch. Tons of fun!
The “Adventure Donut” is an amazing recovery tool. Check it out at 7P. It’s a piece of kit that will one day soon find its way into my recovery bag.
