2019 Santa Cruz Paddlefest

April 6, 2019 By Bryon Dorr Leave a Comment

The 33rd annual Santa Cruz Paddlefest will go down in the history books as another great long weekend with the paddle surf tribe at Steamer Lane. The event continues to evolve and change, but also continues to carry on the deep rich traditions and history of the event.

So Much To Offer

Besides the amazing surfing at the Lane this year there was also a busy Cowell’s Classic Intermediate surf competition, lots of clinics before the event and a great SUP Film Fest on Saturday night. The Vendor area was also bustling this year, with everything from overland campers to One-Wheel demos to custom surf kayaks and bikinis.

More Coverage

For a full rundown of the event this year, and the top results check out the story I wrote for Canoe & Kayak- Celebrating a Spring Classic: 2019 Santa Cruz Paddlefest

Also be sure to check out the expanded photo album from the event on Facebook HERE.

I Love the Santa Cruz Paddefest!

The 2019 Santa Cruz Paddlefest is a highlight event each year for me, and I go to a lot of events. The people, the location, the vibe and the surfing are just second to none.

I even managed to squeeze onto the IC Kayak Open podium, with a third place result. Not bad for not paddling a surf kayak since last year’s event and a few injuries. Hopefully I can get some practice in this year, and move up the podium next year.

Lots of spectators!
Busy vendor area.
It was awesome to have AT Overland as a sponsor of the event this year.
Big 2k, 5k and 10k race fields.
Covewater InZane Foil clinic before the event.
SUP Film Fest
ALWAYS great to be surrounded by super talented photographers like Mark Boyd,
Tom Gomes
and Roger Aguirre Smith
One year we’ll get a proper group photo with all the competitors, but until then here’s a fun one from the very end of this year’s comp.
I failed to get a proper Mat and Tiffany photo this year, so this one of Mat enjoying a Nomad Ice Pop will have to suffice. Mat and Tiffany are the backbone of the event and we all owe a lot to their hard work and dedication.
