REVIEW: T/BOA Regulation Shirt

October 2, 2018 By Bryon Dorr Leave a Comment

T/BOA Outdoors is a tiny clothing company that you might not have heard of yet. They only offer a couple pieces so far, but are focused on bringing unique quality pieces to market, versus a huge quantity of products. While their pieces aren’t inexpensive, they are a great value because of their clean design, technical quality and durability.

T/BOA Regulation Shirt

I’ve had the chance to use the T/BOA Regulation Shirt (MSRP: $145.00) for a few months now on a wide range of travels. It is an athletic fit super comfortable shirt that is equally perfect for a day hike,  a stroll around town or a casual business meeting at a nice restaurant. I’ve wore the shirt at all of the above, and more, and have been thoroughly impressed.

“This shirt makes me want to pet you.” When your Girlfriend says this to you while out at a bar in British Columbia, you know you’re wearing the right shirt!

Fabric

The T/BOA Regulation shirt is constructed from the lightweight, breathable and super soft Schoeller e2 insulating fabric. Comfort is the name of the game with this shirt. The fabric works well in a wide range of temps, especially on the cooler end of the spectrum.

Schoeller Says: “e2 knitted fabrics prevent the body from cooling down at low temperatures. The climate-regulating functions ideally support the body´s own thermal balance.”

Even after days of hard use this shirt stays odor free. The fabric is treated with Schoeller’s Active Silver (silver salt) treatment, making it naturally anti-microbial. I’ve had no issues wearing this shirt on multiple occasions on the same trip, without washing it, and even after sweating in it a good bit.

I’m also impressed with how well this shirt stays relatively wrinkle free, even after being stuffed in suitcases in a variety of climates. I have no time for ironing while I’m out adventuring, working or just kicking it around town!

Snaps

Besides the awesome Scholler fabric, the other major component in this shirt is the German Prym Grip-Fix Snaps. These snaps are super durable, make the shirt super quick to put on and take off and create a really clean look.

The snaps go lower down the shirt than you’ll find on many other button downs. At first, I thought I wouldn’t like this feature, but it actually works quite well at keeping the heat in, not exposing your stomach and keeping the shirt looking good both when sitting and standing.

The T/BOA Regulation shirt’s snaps aren’t perfect though. The round metal backing to the snaps are exposed on the inside of the shirt, meaning they are against your skin and generally cold. The main issue is that the snaps don’t all line up down the front of the shirt perfectly. It’s subtle, but once you see it you can’t un-see it.

Overall Impressions

Overall the quality of the T/BOA Regulation shirt is really good. Quality construction and high quality fabric are what elevate this shirt. The snaps not being aligned properly down the front of the shirt and some stray threads in some of the seams, which are white threads and show badly, are my only gripes. The snap alignment is honestly hard to notice and the stray threads are easily trimmed.

I’m super impressed with how well the T/BOA Regulation shirt regulates body temperature and how crazy soft it feels, inside and out. This has turned into my go to chilly weather travel shirt. I love that it looks sharp enough to use for business and pleasure, no matter where in the world I find myself. The fact that it sheds wrinkles and is light weight makes it a perfect travel companion.

Pro Tip: The care tag is big and scratchy. Cut it out quickly!
